Biography

Kerby Cowan was born and raised in Vancouver. He has four children - Paige, Taylor, Marlon and Dylan.  His children are fifth generation Vancouverites!

Kerby first joined Macdonald Realty Ltd. in 1983 as a sales associate and enjoyed a successful career with Macdonald as one of the company's top producing sales associates.  His transactions ranged from one and two bedroom condominium units to estates in Southlands and UBC as well as various commercial properties.

At the same time, he was also involved in developing his own real estate projects.  His developments include 100 acres of waterfront in Halkett Bay and another 100 acre subdivision in New Brighton, both on Gambier Island, as well as a 25 unit, mixed use commercial/residential building, The Del Prado, at 1155 Mainland Street in Vancouver.  The Del Prado won the City of Vancouver's Best Heritage Warehouse conversion.  Kerby was also involved in the development of a $100 Million, 17 acre, prime waterfront property known as Dolphins & Lagoons in downtown Kelowna.  This development precipitated the opening of a Macdonald Realty office in Kelowna.  He completely renovated and leased his family's building at 560 Beatty Street, winning both the Heritage Award from the City of Vancouver and the Heritage Canada Award for Best Warehouse Conversion.  In 2000, he successfully negotiated a partnership for a new radio station (The Beat 94.5) and was granted a radio licence by the CRTC.

After a short absence from selling real estate, where he concentrated on managing his family's holdings, he returned to real estate in 2005.  In 2008, Kerby teamed up with his wife, Chris in order to better service his clients.  The real estate industry has seen many changes in terms of laws and regulations which serve to further protect the consumer.  Chris joined Macdonald Realty in 1992 and has 17 years of real estate experience administering to and managing the offices for Macdonald Realty Ltd. and Macdonald Commercial Real Estate Services Ltd., the commercial and property management branch of the Macdonald Group.  Together, they make a formidable team with over 40 years of real estate experience.  They have seen several market upheavals in their careers and can help their clients through the difficult as well as the prosperous times.  Their goal to service their clients is their number one priority, which they believe translates into repeat business and a long term career.  Their committment to provide the facts and up-to-date market information to their clients is unwavering.  Kerby and Chris believe that full disclosure to and for their clients is the only way to complete a mutually successful transaction.

Kerby and Chris were thrilled to be one of the first adopters of Macdonald Realty's non-profit MacGreen program. They believe that they have a responsibility to help preserve our planet so that their children and future grandchildren  may enjoy the same luxuries that they grew up with - clean air, green forests and snow-capped mountains. In order to achieve this, Kerby and Chris ensure that every transaction is carbon neutral - even their automobiles.  A portion of all their earnings from real estate sales goes towards Offsetters Carbon Neutral Society, partnering with Macdonald Realty, who uses these funds to invest in carbon-reducing initiatives both in Canada and internationally.  While there is no cost to their clients, you can rest assured that by working with Kerby and Chris, you have helped contribute to the fight against global warming.  If you want to learn more about the MacGreen program, visit  http://www.macrealty.com/macgreen/index.aspx.
